The TELUS Health Data Office brings the power of data and analytics to life, leveraging our market-leading health & wellbeing products and health delivery services to help create healthier communities around the globe. We're at the forefront of digital health innovation, working on projects that span from Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) to interoperability solutions and data commercialization efforts.


In this role, you'll be responsible for facilitating the development and implementation of data-driven healthcare solutions within our Provider, Public Payor, and Private Payor market segments. You'll play a crucial role in our initiatives to enhance healthcare data interoperability, both internally and externally. Your work will support a wide range of downstream use-cases, contributing to our data enablement and commercialization efforts across the healthcare ecosystem.

What you'll do

You'll get in on the ground floor of a high-profile business at TELUS Health and contribute to a new area of the organization. This career-shaping opportunity will allow you to work with many teams across the organization including PMO, Marketing, Sales, Finance, Engineering, and the health leadership teams.


Agile Product Ownership

  • Act as the primary product owner in an agile development environment
  • Manage and refine the product backlog, ensuring it aligns with the product vision set by Product Management
  • Prioritize features and enhancements based on user needs, business value, and technical feasibility
  • Write clear, concise user stories and acceptance criteria for development teams in collaboration with our Business Analysts
  • Facilitate sprint planning, review, and retrospective meetings

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Work closely with Product Management to understand and support the product vision and strategy
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, design, and quality assurance to ensure successful product delivery
  • Engage with healthcare providers, payors, and other external stakeholders to gather and clarify requirements
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the development team and other stakeholders

Healthcare Data Expertise

  • Develop a strong understanding of healthcare data standards, particularly FHIR, and their application in various use-cases
  • Work closely with data engineers and architects to ensure proper data transformation and integration across different EMR systems
  • Stay informed about healthcare interoperability initiatives and regulations, ensuring our products remain compliant and innovative

Backlog Management and Refinement

  • Continuously refine and groom the product backlog to ensure it's always ready for the next sprint
  • Break down complex features into manageable user stories
  • Ensure that the development team has a clear understanding of requirements and acceptance criteria

Quality Assurance and User Acceptance

  • Collaborate with QA teams to define and review test cases
  • Participate in user acceptance testing to ensure the delivered product meets stakeholder expectations
  • Gather and incorporate feedback from users and stakeholders to improve product quality

Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in and sometimes lead small proof-of-concept (POC) projects to explore new technologies and use-cases for healthcare data
  • Continuously seek ways to improve the product development process and methodologies
     

What you bring

  • 3+ years of experience as a Product Owner in Scrum environments, preferably in healthcare IT or digital health
  • Strong understanding of healthcare data standards, with particular emphasis on FHIR and interoperability
  • Experience working with Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) or other healthcare information systems
  • Solid grasp of agile methodologies and proven track record of successful product delivery in agile environments
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to break down complex healthcare data concepts into manageable user stories
  • Strong facilitation and communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to bridge technical and business perspectives
  • Ability to influence cross-functional teams without direct authority
  • Comfortable with high levels of ambiguity and possessing a continuous improvement mindset
  • University degree in Computer Science, Health Informatics, Business, or a related field
  • Certifications such as Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) are highly desirable; FHIR proficiency is a plus
  • Bilingual in English and French is an asset, given our operations across Canada
Salary Range:  $97,000-$145,000
Performance Bonus or Sales Incentive Plan:  15%

Actual total compensation will be determined based on factors such as knowledge, skills, performance and experience. In addition, TELUS offers rewarding benefits such as:
