Reporting to the VP, Total Rewards, the Director of Pensions & Benefits will take on overall responsibility for TELUS Pension & Benefits strategy and plan design. They will sit alongside and collaborate with external partners to develop and implement strategies that enhance the total rewards and the well-being of TELUS team members.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Strategy: Provide thought leadership to design, develop and implement progressive policies to achieve financial, strategic and team member experience objectives. Leverage best-in-class technology and strategic partnerships to enhance the team member value proposition and retain top talent across our diverse team member base.

 

Communications: Integrate Benefits and Pensions programs within TELUS Well-being and amplify team member’s understanding of key features through thoughtful and timely communications strategies (including pension plan amendments and Board presentations). Ensure compliance on all applicable provincial, federal and state employment standards, laws and regulations.

 

Budget ownership and risk management: In close partnership with Finance and governed where appropriate by Pension Committees, manage multi-million dollar annual benefits and pension budgets through effective plan design and risk management.

 

Executive SPOC and escalations: Provide timely and confidential expertise directly to TELUS executives on wide-ranging sensitive and personal issues. Manage all benefits and pension related escalations, including arbitrations and legal action.

  • Annual budget process (January)
  • Benefits – continued optimization of the plan with full benefits review in 2025
  • Defined Contribution Plan - increase awareness of the financial planning / advice and the Decumulation program available to team members
  • Team recruitment, development and overall leadership
  • Contractor benefits assessment
  • Global benefits framework for TELUS Health & TELUS Agriculture

 

 

Qualifications

 

Experience

 

A track record of successfully leading a pensions & benefits function within a dynamic, large complex company who has assisted the strategic planning and execution of new pension/benefits programs. Brings proven people management experience and a track record working with senior executives including C-level. A demonstrated ability to relate to the broad business issues and has implemented programs and processes that are practical, drive growth and deliver value for the business.

 

Expertise

 

Advanced understanding of the principles, concepts and practices of pension and benefit plan administration and experience managing large corporate budgets. Familiarity with relevant acts, legislation and guidelines as they pertain to pension and benefit plans. Experience developing communication strategies that enable team members to understand the value of their benefit and pension plans. Experience managing relationships with third party administrators and carriers, including negotiation of contracts and financial terms. Demonstrated ability to implement controls and manage risk.

Strong verbal and written presentation skills including the ability to communicate complex ideas in a simple way and tailor key messages and presentation style to multiple audiences.

 

 

Salary Range:  $132,000-$198,000
Performance Bonus or Sales Incentive Plan:  30%

Actual total compensation will be determined based on factors such as knowledge, skills, performance and experience. In addition, TELUS offers rewarding benefits, which may vary per job function, such as:
