As the Indigenous AI Governance & Data Ethics Fellow, reporting to the Director of AI Governance and Data Ethics, your work will include collaborating, researching, and engaging with Indigenous Peoples about ethical data and artificial intelligence in Canada.

You will be a champion for data and trust, contributing towards advancing TELUS’ commitment to incorporate Indigenous perspectives into our data ethics strategy. Your contributions to data ethics and AI governance will support our business needs as well as our position on social capitalism as we seek opportunities to innovate with data. The research in data ethics and AI will contribute to an understanding of how technology can be used effectively and ethically, benefiting society as a whole.

 

Here’s how

 

  • Conducting research and staying up-to-date with the latest developments in ethical technology design and development practices particularly for high impact areas TELUS conducts business in such as healthcare
  • Advising on research practices and engagements, shaping the design of workshops to enable listening and learning from Indigenous communities
  • Collaborating, researching, and writing reports to recommend best practices
  • Effectively communicating research findings and convey the impact of ethical data and AI governance, and technology design, particularly for Indigenous Peoples
  • Providing insights and recommendations on how TELUS can improve our data and AI practices to improve outcomes
  • Participating in industry-wide efforts to advance ethical data and AI practices and standards

Requirements:

 

  • Identify as First Nations, Inuit or Métis
    *To safeguard Indigenous-specific opportunities at TELUS and ensure they are rightfully given to First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples, applicants may be asked about their connection to community
  • You are currently enrolled in a Post-secondary degree in computer science, engineering, artificial intelligence, information science, philosophy, international law/human rights, or related field of study
  • Minimum of one co-op term or summer internship completed
