Description

About the Role

Join TELUS Energy at the ground floor of a transformational journey with potential to become the next TELUS Health. This is a unique hybrid role combining deep data analytics expertise with product management development—building the data and analytics foundation for an emerging business from scratch.

What makes this unique:

  • Work directly within the Product organization, learning product management while building analytics infrastructure
  • Bridge from Data & Reporting into Product Management with structured coaching
  • Gain exposure to P&L analysis, capital/operational spending, and financial decision-making
  • Develop a rare, highly-valued skill combination: technical data expertise + product management acumen
  • Build systems and frameworks with full ownership and creative freedom

Reality check:

  • Requires significant independent problem-solving with limited technical support
  • 70% technical execution, 30% strategic work in Year 1
  • Expect pivots as the business evolves—flexibility is essential
  • Building from scratch with all associated challenges and opportunities

What You'll Do

Months 1-3: Build the Foundation

  • Design and establish reporting framework and data infrastructure from scratch
  • Identify, map, and integrate key data sources across demand response, operations, and financial systems
  • Build executive-ready dashboards using Power BI/Tableau/Google Looker Studio
  • Create operational reports (sales performance, product mix, orders, yield)
  • Create financial reports (revenue, EBITDA, key business metrics)
  • Develop automated demand response event tracking
  • Establish data governance standards
  • Participate in product planning sessions and receive coaching from product managers

Months 4-6: Refine and Expand

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to refine reports based on feedback
  • Identify and resolve data quality issues
  • Optimize report performance and user experience
  • Document data models, reporting logic, and processes
  • Take on small product initiatives and learn customer discovery techniques
  • Continue product management mentorship

Months 6+: Drive Strategic Insights & Product Growth

  • Conduct deep-dive statistical analysis on key business metrics (churn drivers, pricing elasticity, product adoption)
  • Design and analyze experiments to test business hypotheses
  • Translate complex findings into actionable recommendations for leadership
  • Lead product analytics and contribute to roadmap decisions
  • Develop business cases for new features
  • Support team members as the team grows
  • Position for transition to Product Management or other business leadership roles

Throughout Your Journey

  • Receive coaching from product managers on product frameworks and strategic thinking
  • Participate in product planning, roadmap discussions, and go-to-market strategies
  • Develop executive presence and stakeholder management skills
  • Optional: Gain exposure to P&L management, capital budgeting, and pricing strategies
