The Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) team is a dynamic, high-performance team that plays a critical role in the inorganic growth and strategic expansion of TELUS Business. The M&A team is dedicated to identifying, evaluating, and executing on strategic acquisitions in order to add massive, incremental value and advance the strategic agenda for TELUS Business. In close partnership with various Business Units, Corporate Development, and the Post Acquisition Integration team, the M&A team drives a portfolio of inorganic growth opportunities from ideation to close. 

 

The Senior Strategy Manager, M&A will report to the Director, M&A and play a key role leading and supporting multiple, concurrent M&A initiatives with partners across TELUS Business. The role is high-profile and plays a central role in defining the inorganic roadmap for several B2B business units with the responsibility to execute on the plan as well. 

 

What You’ll Do

 

  • Collaborate with various business leadership teams to develop and/or refine M&A optionality in alignment with strategic objectives
  • Conduct market research to identify M&A opportunities, including assessing market trends, industry dynamics, and competitive intensity within target areas
  • Evaluate and screen target companies including comprehensive assessment of a target’s financial profile, go-to-market strategy, operational and technology capabilities, and potential strategic fit with TELUS
  • Lead and support target outreach, relationship management, and funnel development activities including potentially working with 3rd party advisors
  • Alongside Corporate Development, drive transaction execution including financial analysis, synergy modeling, commercial diligence, and risk mitigation
  • Support integration planning and strategy in conjunction with the Post Acquisition Integration team
  • Manage a portfolio of concurrent M&A initiatives often under high urgency
  • Prepare highly-polished, senior executive level materials that synthesize complex information into concise, insightful formats
  • Support M&A program updates and corporate reporting requirements

 

 

Qualifications

 

You are likely in a similar strategy position today, with an M&A focus and many of the talents and experience items below:

 

  • A passion for identifying technology growth opportunities, and leading end-to-end M&A activities from opportunity identification to due diligence to integration planning
  • Solid understanding of M&A, corporate investing, and/or strategy execution practices within large tier 1 organizations
  • Proven strategy development experience, including market research, target scanning, and pitching strategic growth opportunities 
  • Strong generalist skill set and a strong bias for action, with the willingness to quickly transition from strategy development to tactical execution and detailed analysis
  • Strong financial acumen, with proven experience in financial analysis and business case development
  • Advanced analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to synthesize complex data into simple, actionable insights and recommendations
  • Advanced storytelling skills, with proven experience producing materials for a senior executive level audience
  • High comfort with ambiguity, leveraging structured thinking to break down complex problems into actionable work packages


Great to haves:

 

We are especially motivated to connect with those who have one or more of the following items:

 

  • 7+ years of progressive work experience in M&A, strategy consulting or equity research from a top-tier consulting firm, investment bank, or tier 1 corporate
  • Broad industry experience within B2B IT, SaaS, technology/data, telecom, healthcare, or consumer goods
  • MBA and / or CFA 

 

Note that this position can be held by a team member in/near any major centre in Canada.

Salary Range:  $94,000-$142,000
Performance Bonus or Sales Incentive Plan:  15%
