If so, you may be the right fit for the Senior Strategy Manager role in the Research and Development (R&D) and Technical Innovations team.
The R&D and Technical Innovations team is responsible for a proactive and value-added R&D tax credits program, utilizing elements that provide information, analysis, tracking, and communications across all teams at TELUS. You’ll help our international and domestic teams identify, state, federal, provincial, R&D tax credits and quantify and qualify the potential tax opportunities, and increase eligible tax credits and economic incentives based on staying abreast with the relevant Income Tax Acts, tax authority policies and relevant case law.
You will leverage a solid foundation in program management to lead initiatives to excel in managing multiple priorities simultaneously and interact comfortably with various levels of management and external tax consultants. You will partner closely with the business unit’s leadership team, as well as our technical, finance and taxation partners, to help build our global R&D and domestic tax incentives. All this will influence key decisions and financial benefits across the TELUS Corporation.

What you'll do
- Collaborate with leadership at all levels to drive strategic priorities by facilitating high-impact results and providing expert guidance on tax credit claims feasibility for optimal decision-making
- Project manage the delivery of US & UK R&D tax claims for multiple companies in our TELUS Agriculture and Consumer Goods and TELUS Health lines of business, while ensuring a comprehensive audit trial is created
- Assist with domestic Canadian R&D tax claims development
- Collaborate with global teams in people and culture, finance, payroll, taxation, engineering and design to gather project cost and technical information, and advise of tax credits for general ledger entries
- Support Tax Authority audits in collaboration with tax consultants, including proactively liaising with government authorities in relation to audit queries
- Source and submit requested information and attend Tax Authority meetings
- Review reassessment proposals, researching legislation, filing objections and negotiating resolutions
- Manage the tax consultant engagement by ensuring deliveries and fees are in alignment with contractual obligations
- Where strategically needed, you will lead other projects, seek and implement methods of automation, perform deep dive business and financial analyses / investigations and present insights and conclusions to senior management
What you bring
- Five or more years of experience providing program management, business planning and financial operational support as a high performing single contributor
- Unquestionable professionalism, integrity and ethics with a desire to learn and become a value-add team member, hands-on approach to problem solving in a proactive and collaborative manner
- Able to present complex information in an easily understood manner, tailoring the communication to diverse audiences to facilitate understanding
- Engaging communicator with strong presentation skills, excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact confidently with senior management, business stakeholders and tax authorities
- Excellent time management, organization, and planning skills with the ability to foster cross-functional teamwork to achieve outcomes in challenging environments (tight deadlines, limited information or resources, etc.)
Great - to- haves
- Skilled in Google Suite, SAP, Excel, modern project management technologies, such as monday.com and other common software applications
- University degree in Business, Finance or Accounting, Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
- Prior experience with R&D tax credit programs, including preparing and supporting IT or software-based claims in the Telecommunications field
