As the Soil Test Technician, you play an integral role in the success of future crops for our farm customers. By collecting soil samples and analyzing the nutrient sources, we can support farmers by managing and balancing nutrient levels in ways that bring the most potential to the crop, increasing crop quality, optimizing yield and profitability potential, and adapting the soil for sustainable field management.

 

What you’ll do in this role:

 

  • Drive to various farms for soil collection in a large geographical area
  • Conduct soil testing with an understanding of the process
  • Move and operate equipment
  • Basic maintenance of vehicles, including washing and sanitizing your truck after every farm visit
  • Weather Station Installation and maintenance
  • Considerable amount of driving to and from customer locations, which may or may not include driving in treacherous weather conditions
  • Moderate physical activity required, some lifting required
  • Other duties as necessary

 

 

Qualifications

 

What you bring:

 

  • Must have basic knowledge of forage, crop identification
  • Willing to work overtime and travel as required for up to 28 days at a time
  • Ability to work independently and responsibly
  • 7-day work availability during the busy season(s)
  • Must have at minimum a valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean drivers abstract (Class 3 or 1 an asset)
  • Comfort in driving long distances, at times pulling a 26' trailer when required
  • Proficient computer skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft programs
  • A farming and agricultural background is an asset
