We are looking for an energetic and highly motivated Certified Genetic Counsellor to join our growing genetics team at TELUS Health. The ideal candidate will be collaborative and innovative in providing support to clients and clinical team members. They will empower clients on their health and wellness journey by facilitating access to quality proactive genetic screening and genetic counselling. This is a hybrid position of both remote and on-site work at one of our TELUS Health Care Centre locations.
What you’ll do
As a member of the Clinical Services team, you will be a key contributor to our Genetics program, where you will:
- Bring clinical knowledge and expertise in proactive genetic testing and communication of results
- Provide genetic counselling services in the areas of preventive health and wellness including, but not limited to, hereditary adult onset diseases, pharmacogenomics, and carrier screening
- Review and triage results of genetic testing
- Liaise with clinical staff across all of TELUS Health, supporting the understanding of medical genetics, genetic services offered and implications of genetic test results
- Foster collaboration and strong working relationships with all departments
- Establish relationships within the genetics community on a national basis
- Be a supportive member of the genetic team as it grows
- Prepare and present updates regarding status and process flow of the genetics program
Qualifications
What YOU bring:
- Masters degree in Genetic Counselling or equivalent
- Certification through the American Board of Genetic Counselling (ABGC) and/or the Canadian Board of Genetic Counselling (CBGC), or active candidate status (required)
- 3+ years of clinical experience (preferred)
- Bilingual, professional proficiency in both English and French an asset
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to communicate and comprehend genetic test results
- Strong collaboration and leadership skills
- Detail-oriented and solution-driven problem solving skills
- Highly organized with demonstrable success working as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Demonstrated experience working independently (required)
- Embraces a culture of ownership with the desire to continually improve and try new things
- Prior experience working alongside family physicians and nurse practitioners (ideal)
Advanced knowledge of English is required because you will on a regular basis interact in English with internal parties (colleagues, internal partners, stakeholders, etc.); and work with IT tools whose interface is only accessible in English as part of this position's main responsibilities given its national scope.
