As a member of our extraordinary team, you will work with partners and teams responsible for driving the growth of TELUS transport solutions in the marketplace.

 

You will be part of a high-powered team focused on entrepreneurship that designs vertical solutions to accelerate the adoption of telematics in order to improve productivity, safety and compliance while also reducing costs and environmental impacts.

 

As a Technical Writer for SkyHawk by TELUS, you’ll play a key role in creating technical content for various delivery platforms, including print, web, and video. You will be responsible for creating, developing, and maintaining technical documentation in the form of user guides, integration guides, installation/configuration guides, system administration guides, release notes, training materials and the creation of video tutorials. You will be responsible for ensuring that our written communications are clear, relevant, and jargon-free – and most importantly, matches the TELUS brand voice and tone.

 

Our writers pair with our managers, product owners, designers and stakeholders to help teams to design great content, along with demonstrating industry expertise so that our content practice scales faster. You’ll help the team deliver a customer first experience by crafting content that helps customers complete the task at hand. Along with representing our content interests with other teams within TELUS, you’ll know what it takes to deliver a great Omni channel experience. To help you execute, you’ll lean on our teams in design & user experience, development, testing, analytics, and marketing.

Here’s how:

 

This is what you can look forward to in a typical week or month:

 

  • Develop product documentation and training materials that conveys the vision of system capabilities and is appropriate for its intended audience
  • Gather and research technical information
  • Interview subject matter experts to gain a deeper understanding of the topic being written about
  • Edit documentation for clarity without changing key information
  • Maintain close collaborative relationship with product, development, engineering, marketing, and QA teams to ensure quality documentation
  • Develop video tutorials including writing the voice narrative, creating the video, and finalizing the video product into a cohesive package
  • Effectively manage documentation deliverables to meet software release schedules
  • Establish and maintain customer documentation workflow processes, exercise judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions
  • Understand the target audience of the document and how to convey information to various levels of proficiency and capabilities
  • Contribute to the overall practice culture by sharing learnings and knowledge with peers
  • Be an advocate of the content practice by building strong relationships with TELUS team members and communicating our goals

You are likely in a similar technical writing position today and have many of the traits, skills and experience points below:

 

  • You’re a technical writer with a minimum of three years of experience working in a similar role
  • You’re someone who can gracefully give and receive feedback
  • You have a familiarity with content strategy best practices and user experience
  • You’re hyper-focused on delivering great customer experiences aligned with business outcomes
  • You’re passionate about modern content practices and methodologies
  • You’re adept at working in a highly-collaborative, lean, agile environment
  • You understand the interplay between business, technical and customer needs within the context of creating online content experiences
  • You’re highly detail-oriented and organized, with exceptional analytical skills
  • You’re able to communicate content strategy rationale and build consensus
  • You understand the importance of creating accessible content and how that applies to WCAG 2.0 AA principles
  • You have obtained a University degree or diploma in a technical discipline

 

Great-to-haves

 

We are especially excited to connect with people who have experience with any of the following:

 

  • Experience with the technical writing for software applications
  • Experience with video editing software
  • Experience with document design and visual layout tools (such as the Adobe suite of products)
  • Bilingual; proficient in verbal and written French/English
  • Knowledge of Agile methodology
  • Experience with Fleet Management and/or the automotive industry
