The Wireless Voice Infrastructure DevOps Team drives strategy, development and operations of current and next-generation IMS and emerging 5G Voice network elements; providing Voice and multimedia services on TELUS’ state-of-the-art network. Our team work on finding solutions through software, design, develop, integrate and operate multiple network elements, serving millions of TELUS subscribers nationally. Our team members are empowered to initiate and innovate, performing Proof of Concept, translating ideas into business cases and into real-world products. We leverage a broad range of technologies across virtualization, automation, AI, Data Analytics and Engineering. We are passionate as we continue to optimize TELUS service quality, network reliability and resiliency.

 

As a Senior Design Specialist, you will be an integral part of the IMS DevOps team, as we continue the virtualization of wireless voice core elements, leveraging the all-IP build to drive innovation. You will work in the capacity of an IMS Development and Integration Engineer, to drive the design, development, engineering, capacity planning, implementation and testing of IMS infrastructure in virtualized environment. You will serve as an IMS Subject Matter Expert (SME), manage projects and initiatives as a technical leader in integrating new platforms and solutions; managing vendors to complete deliverables on-time and on-budget.


In this role, Senior Design Specialist will also be overseeing improvement of existing flows and services, and lead or participate in cross-functional initiatives. Your creativity and core technical expertise in IMS, telecommunications, cloud technology, coupled with your passion in technology development, planning and engineering, will help us drive our business and services portfolio for the Consumer and SMB markets. You will exercise your entrepreneurial spirit and innovative vision to change the way TELUS leverages technology and to enrich our 5G network strategy and evolution.

 

The successful candidate will have a passion for investigating and discovering solutions, working with wide range of stakeholders to improve outcomes.

What you’ll do 

 

  • Analyze new service categories and products for technical feasibility and operational practicality
  • Evaluate and approve service and cross-platform architecture deviations
  • Develop technical requirements and service flows based on business requirements and architecture guidelines
  • Collaborate with Product and Business Development teams to find the right balance between product and network evolution
  • Translate Business Requirements into deployable and solid technical solutions; leverage state of the art technology to build lab and production demos and trials
  • Ensure the balance between cost, delivery timelines and business/architecture compliance is achieved across all program phases and across all delivery organizations
  • Lead and participate in the creation of detailed documentation; design, planning and implementation
  • Develop test plans and test cases to verify the implementation against the target requirements and project goals. Lead or provide guidance on test execution
  • Work with other teams, vendors as applicable, to understand and resolve technical issues impacting IMS network or services and drive the issues all the way to resolution
  • Research and share the state of the art on both technology and workflow improvement tools – DevOps toolchains
  • Lead and/or collaborate with other SMEs on IMS softwarization and virtualization
  • Participate in Development and Operational optimization initiatives, identify and drive improvements
  • Explore leading trends and developments in technology, service and customer expectations, identifying evolving opportunities for TELUS, by participating in industry standards bodies, technology forums and relationships with telecom providers
  • Support Operations, Performance and Capacity Planning for the platforms in the team scope

 

 

What you bring

 

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Electrical/Electronics, Telecommunication, IT, Computer or any other related major)
  • Working experience in IMS, VoLTE and 5G domains
  • Working experience with IMS components; Access, Core nodes, DNS, preferably with hands-on experience in managing the parameter and configuration changes
  • Excellent knowledge of End to End IMS/VoLTE Architecture. Mobility call flows and protocol understanding (3G/4G/5G)
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills, able to provide different approaches and solutions in solving problems end to end. Good impact and root cause analysis skills
  • Experience in virtualized IMS nodes deployment and managing virtualized network functions
  • Experience in IMS Testing and Test Automation tooling and development
  • Good knowledge of 3GPP architecture and interfaces, integration standards
  • Excellent understanding of IP, Linux and networking, virtualization (VMWare, OpenStack), cloud technologies (K8s, Docker). Working experience preferred
  • Excellent planning and organization skills
  • Excellent communication, organization, negotiation and presentation skills
  • Proficiency in English

 

Great-to-haves

 

  • Experience with Ericsson, Nokia IMS vendors
  • Scripting/Programming Knowledge; Bash, Python, Ansible, Java, Javascript, MATLAB
  • Knowledge or experience in IMS Network Capacity Planning
  • Experience in Agile practices
