Here’s how
The work of a Primary Care Paramedic involves operating an ambulance in responding to emergencies and routine calls and providing skilled basic and advanced emergency care to persons suffering from a variety of illnesses and injuries. The Primary Care Paramedic is required to assess, stabilize, and report on the nature and severity of the illness or injury. Work is performed with considerable independence and is reviewed through observation, examination of records/reports and the presence or absence of valid complaints.
- Respond to emergency situations of both medical and traumatic nature
- Transfer of care to local health authority ambulance service as necessary
- Clinical duties such as patient history taking, vital signs, and patient charting, etc.
- Perform Ambulance/MTC checks
- Inspect and maintain emergency equipment
- Onsite equipment checks
- Inventory of medical supplies, equipment and medications
- Performs audits as required (first aid kits, Employer notification forms, clinic QA)
- Assists in training and orientation of new hires
- Drug & Alcohol testing
- Various clerical duties
- Aid in statistical data gathering for all clinic visits
- Other duties as required/assigned
Qualifications
You're the missing piece of the puzzle
- Completion of Primary Care Paramedic Program
- Minimum three years’ experience in an acute care setting, preferably industrial setting
- Experience in working in an industrial construction site
- Registration with the Provincial Medical Oversight Program
- Registration with Newfoundland and Labrador Paramedicine Regulation (NLPR)
- Possession of a valid Class 4 Driver’s License as issued by the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador with abstract
- Experience in Emergency Care is required
- A satisfactory record of work performance is required
- Meet National Occupational Competency Profile Paramedicine (NOCP) Guidelines
- ITLS current
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (CPR)
- IV Therapy
- Symptom Relief Medications
- DOT urine drug screening (preferred)
- DOT Breath Alcohol screening (preferred)
- WHMIS training an asset
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word and Excel)
- Works well under pressure and demonstrates a sense of urgency in completing time sensitive tasks
- Excellent command of the English language, both verbal and written
- Excellent organizational skills

- Frequent heavy lifting and movement of patients and equipment (25-50 lbs.), including stretchers (100 lbs.)
- Constant physical exertion: standing, bending, stretching, kneeling, pushing, and pulling, often in confined spaces
- Continuous visual concentration required for driving, patient assessment, and medication administration; operates under regular time pressures in emergency settings
- Work pace is often uncontrollable due to unpredictable medical emergencies and call volumes
