At SkyHawk Telematics (SkyHawk by Telus), we love to help organizations get crystal clear insight and better control over their assets.

We’re proud to be a leader in secure, Internet-based GPS tracking and management solutions to governments, power utility organizations, first responders and specialty transport. We help them:

We do this using ConnectAnywhere, our advanced cloud-based monitoring system, coupled with our suite of in-field data collection devices and applications. Our solution gives our clients detailed, real-time and historical data required to make the best operational decisions.

Here’s the impact you’ll make and what we’ll accomplish together

To help us take our products and services to the next level, we’re looking for a passionate and driven Developer Analyst ready to start or continue a rewarding career. You’ll work within our Software team and be actively involved in all aspects of the development life cycle, including concept generation, design, implementation, and acceptance. Our full stack approach to teamwork ensures you will have the opportunity to explore many diverse elements.

Here's how

A day in the life will include many of these critical actions:

  • You will develop an in-depth understanding of the overall software architecture and the technologies used within our product
  • You will lead design, implementation, and debugging of features of varying complexity
  • You will write concise technical documentation and participate in analyzing feature requirements from our Product team, to effectively understand their purpose, challenges, approach, and justification and translate those into working features
  • You will be active in technical meetings and demonstrations both internally and, occasionally, with stakeholders

Qualifications

You're the missing piece of the puzzle

You are likely in a similar software development role, today, with many of the experienced points and skills, below:

  • You have a knack for learning new technologies quickly across a wide variety of technical areas
  • You are known for your analytical mind, capable of solving technical and process related problems
  • You have an ability to communicate technical concepts and ideas to members of the development team, and to members of the company as a whole
  • A strong attention to detail and a desire to probe further into issues/data
  • A degree or diploma in a relevant technical discipline or relevant software development experience (new grads welcome to apply)

Great-to-haves

We are especially excited to connect with people who have experience with any of the following:

  • An understanding of the fundamentals of a vehicle electrical system, including OBD-II and/or J1939 communication protocols
  • AVL, fleet telematics, or IoT
  • AWS SaaS deployments
  • Java, Vert.x, Guice, GWT, MongoDB, MySQL
  • Eclipse, SVN, Git, Jira, Confluence

Note that there are a few similar opportunities for Developers on the SkyHawk team, at present.  They primarily differ by level/years of experience.  As each opportunity has the same hiring stakeholder team and the same Talent Acquisition prime, you need only apply to one; the team and you can align to the most appropriate spot.  Please also know that, though the majority of team members are in St. John's, NL and Oakville, ON, Developers can work remotely from major centres across Canada.
