The counsellor provides assessment, short-term, solution-focused counselling, referrals, case management services and record keeping for all cases, following TELUS Health Care Centre requirements and meeting the organization’s contractual obligations to its customer organizations.

 

Here’s how

 

Counselling (75%)

 

  • Contacts clients within required period and according to assigned level of risk
  • Contacts clients and reviews the counselling process
  • Assess clients and jointly sets goals and established a strategy on how to meet the goals
  • Provides short-term counselling to clients to facilitate their attainment of goals
  • Refers clients to community resources or other external resources as part of the established plan and acts as a case manager
  • Facilitates client contact with external resources, liaises and advocates on client’s behalf
  • Provides information in writing and verbally on clients’ behalf and with client consent
  • Monitors open cases and provides follow-up of client’ progress and satisfaction with services
  • Ensures availability for emergency appointments and may take clients to emergency care
  • Provides counselling, support and consultation to customer organizations around assisted referrals
  • Attend monthly Critical Incident Stress Management Team Meetings and provide Mental Health direction/component for the team

 

Resource & Professional Development Education (10%)

 

  • Researches and keeps current on referral sources in the community and shares information with colleagues
  • Keeps current on literature, articles, legislative and regulatory changes relevant to client issues and the counselling process
  • Prepares presentations on clinical topics for meetings/newsletters
  • Attends clinical and case meetings as required

 

Administrative/Procedural (15%)

 

  • Consults with Regional Clinical manager and colleagues regarding EFAP cases and related issues
  • Responds to all referrals within five business days and confirms all referrals with referring agency (CAC)
  • Follows case booking procedures to ensure confidentiality
  • Complies to procedures to ensure client is informed about privacy and confidentiality
  • Ensures timely case closures and documentation
  • Record and forward all billable cases as required

Qualifications

Education:

 

  • Successful completion of a Master’s Degree in Counselling, Psychology, or Social Work

 

Experience and Professional Requirements:

 

  • 5 years of direct clinical experience in behaviour analysis
  • EFAP industry experience
  • Knowledge of workplace issues
  • Ability to clinically manage high-risk crises, including clients who are a threat to self or others
  • Ability to work with individuals, couples, and families
  • Substance abuse assessment and counselling experience
  • Professional Association Membership or registration with a Mental Health association 
  • Possess Liability Insurance
  • Must possess Basic and Advanced training in Critical incident Stress Management
  • The successful candidate must provide an acceptable Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • Maintain the highest standards of privacy, confidentiality and data security to protect the personal information of all TELUS Health Care Centre clients
