Counsel, Regulatory Law and Policy
Our Regulatory Affairs group advocates before the CRTC and other public bodies and advises our business on regulatory and public law matters. We are an interdisciplinary team of advocates, including lawyers, economists, and seasoned industry experts. Together, we apply legal and public policy principles along with technical knowledge to advance TELUS' interests within the Canadian communications industry.
Reporting to the Director, Regulatory Law and Policy, as a highly capable advocate, you will be responsible for leading TELUS’ legal and policy submissions on telecommunications, broadcasting, and copyright matters before the CRTC and other public bodies. You will also be called upon to provide advice to our businesses, and will collaborate with team members across Canada and the world to advance our interests. Here’s how:
- Drafting TELUS’ submissions for public proceedings conducted before administrative and government bodies such as the CRTC, the Competition Bureau, the Copyright Board, and Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada
- Delivering timely analysis of laws and regulations
- Meeting with senior regulatory and government officials to discuss TELUS’ positions on major public policy issues
- Advising senior management and their business units on new regulations and supporting compliance activities
- Supporting public affairs initiatives by providing strategic input and subject matter expertise and
- Embracing a culture that advances our strategic imperatives and corporate priorities, including our Customers First strategy
What you bring
- 2-7 years experience practicing law with experience in written advocacy
- Excellent written advocacy and oral communications skills
- A demonstrated ability to manage complex files involving cross-functional teams, prioritize and deal with multiple assignments, and exercise judgment, often under significant time pressures
- A demonstrated ability to balance business requirements against regulatory risks and to formulate solutions to advance the needs of business units
Great-to-haves
- Experience in any of the following areas of law is an asset: telecommunications, broadcasting, copyright, administrative, competition, and litigation.
- Ability to read and communicate in French
