You’ll join the Badal by TELUS leadership team as the Head of our Data Engineering Practice—a strategic pillar of the business. This role blends technical depth with business leadership and is ideal for someone excited to shape offerings, scale a high-performing team, and drive commercial impact across the data engineering lifecycle. 
You will lead solution development, talent growth, and go-to-market execution across four focus areas:

 

  • Data Platform Engineering 
  • Modern Data Stack 
  • Data Migration 
  • Applied Intelligence

How you’ll be successful:

 

As the Director of Business Development and Head of our Data Engineering Practice, you’ll define and scale our offerings across Data Platform Engineering; the Modern Data Stack, Applied Intelligence, and Data Migration. You will lead high-impact client engagements from pre-sales through delivery, acting as both a technical authority and executive sponsor. Your leadership will drive innovation, delivery excellence, and team growth, while ensuring our solutions consistently exceed client expectations. Collaborating closely with sales, engineering, PMO and leadership, you will turn client challenges into scalable services—and own the practice’s performance, strategy, and capacity planning.

 

You’ll also provide:

 

  • Thought leadership on data architecture, ML/AI, Cloud and modern ELT patterns 
  • Technical strategy for client solutions leveraging GCP, Snowflake, dbt, Kafka, and more 
  • People leadership by coaching high-performing technical teams in a consulting context
  • Financial acumen, including management of P&L
  • Sales/professional services outreach, including participation in or leading pre-sales activities and opportunity initiation
  • Innovation by continuously evolving practice capabilities to stay ahead of market needs
  • Standards & governance by embedding responsible AI, data privacy, lineage, and governance into solutions 
  • Execution excellence with a relentless focus on value, quality, and speed in delivery

 

 

Qualifications

 

You’re the missing piece of the puzzle:

 

You are likely in a similar engineering & business leadership position today, with many of the following talents and experience points:

 

  • You bring several years of experience in data engineering or software development, with at least 3 years in a consulting leadership role
  • You have effectively managed P&L, grown practices and supported go-to-market execution
  • You have experience working within consulting or professional services teams, delivering enterprise solution
  • You have done business development, account management or technical sales, initiating new relationships and creating opportunities.
  • You are known for your knowledge of Google Cloud Platform (preferred), BigQuery, DBT, Airflow, Spark, Kafka and modern data stack tools
  • Your technical background includes data modeling, ELT/ETL design, streaming and analytics engineering
  • You are familiar with machine learning workflows, MLOps integration and governance frameworks

 

Great to haves:

 

We are especially motivated to connect with individuals with one or more of the following:

 

  • University degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field; Master’s degree even better
  • Leadership and/or data certifications

 

 

Salary Range:  $130,000-$194,000
Performance Bonus or Sales Incentive Plan:  $50,000-80,000

Actual total compensation will be determined based on factors such as knowledge, skills, performance and experience. In addition, TELUS offers rewarding benefits such as:
