Our team and what we’ll accomplish together
TELUS Health Care Centres’ technology group is seeking a Director, Information Technology for Application and Service Development and Delivery of key solutions and platforms. You will work closely with business leaders and program managers and their teams. In this role, you will be a key contributor leading key initiatives / priorities in the technology roadmap that enables the business and technology goals of TELUS Health Care Centres.
The Director, Information Technology is responsible for the end-to-end identification, sourcing, design, development and implementation of information technology applications and services (clinical, business, etc.,). You will lead and collaborate with teams on requirements identification, analysis, architecture, testing and service support activities. These projects will improve business outcomes, processes and deliver a great customer experience.
What you’ll do
In this role, you will demonstrate leadership capabilities, which include managing team members, budgeting, reporting and providing overall direction and guidance. You will also establish benchmarks and assure business goals are met within the IT department.
Key duties include:
- Staff Management – Collaborates with Head of IT to ensure appropriate IT staff via effective recruitment, retention and development
- Strategy & Planning – Collaborates with IT Leadership on emerging technology opportunities and disruptive expectations. Develops strategy to manage opportunity and minimize risks
- Documenting and Understanding current environment and integration opportunities, including assisting in preparing a roadmap for strategic plan, emerging technology and integration opportunities
- Business Line Leadership & Planning – Partners with business or clinical leaders to analyze, develop, and identify IT needs for existing and future planned initiatives; determines scope and priorities for these initiatives and provides guidance to customers on IT governance processes
- Participate in the development and implementation of the Strategic IT Plan, projecting resource requirements, costs and project planning. Develops and communicates roadmap and expectations on meeting the strategic initiatives acting as an advocate, mentor and change agent with the team to build consensus
- Acquisition & Deployment – Stays current on industry trends and regulatory changes. Researches emerging technology and analyzes the organizational opportunity and risk mitigation requirements. Develops and recommends plans for adopting additional features or functions within the current solutions to improve operational efficiencies or improve the value realized from the current investment for improved patient satisfaction or quality
- Understands, educates and maintains roadmaps of anticipated organizational needs, IT advancements, regulatory requirements and solution/feature availability. Utilizes this information to assist various leaders in understanding how technology will impact their areas and needs

- Project Portfolio Management – Oversees the development of detailed project schedules and manages the project budget, assessments, and service level agreements. Assists project managers on understanding and managing action items, risks/issues and all project deliverables. Facilitating project meetings and generating agendas/minutes. Driving projects through all deployment phases while reviewing project performance, and effect changes as needed to improve business processes and support critical business strategies
- Operational Management – Establishes procedures, architecture and objectives for applications management with the rest of the technology leadership team. Ensures that the system portfolio list is kept updated and relevant with impact analysis on each change, including version, upgrades, system capacity, hardware requirements, additional features/functionality and required resources. Maintains documentation of all current integration points (hardware/software) that would be impacted by changes to any of the systems
- Integration Management – Collaborates with the IS team to develop integration and interoperability opportunities and strategy. Defines strategies and approaches for the effective sharing of information between systems. Provides direction and expertise regarding the integration of applications across the enterprise. Collaborates with the Process Improvement department to ensure efficiencies and optimization of business and clinical workflow and continuous improvement of systems and technology use
- Partner Management – Manages strategic relationships with key associates and IT strategic partners. Participates in executive and leadership meetings and presentations. Develops relationships with professional affiliations as appropriate
- Asset and Vendor Management – Serves as the integration expert across solutions and interfaces, providing troubleshooting, process expertise and guidance Participates in identifying and resolving global design issues. Provides consultation on process design alternatives and decisions. Escalates problems to the appropriate level to achieve resolution. Participates in system upgrade planning, preparation and testing
- Communication – Works with various stakeholders to advance strategic partnerships to further the goals. Develops and maintains relationships throughout the business to understand ongoing operational and strategic opportunities, challenges and achievements
Qualifications
What you bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in the field of computer science or related field or equivalent experience
- Minimum 3-5 years in Healthcare industry (hospital IS/IT or healthcare environment) required
- 3 years of leadership experience
- A strong knowledge of IT, service design, solutions/applications and project management
- Experience in strategic planning and execution
- Experience with innovation & implementation of emerging technologies
- Substantial exposure to data processing, hardware platforms, enterprise software applications, and outsourced systems, including cloud based applications/systems
- Proven experience in IT planning, organization, and development, including budget development and accountability
- Excellent understanding of project management principles
- Proven leadership ability & negotiating skills
- Ability to set and manage priorities judiciously
- Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language
- Superior analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities
- Positive service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills required
- Experience with systems design and development from business requirements analysis through to day-to-day management
- Good understanding of computer systems characteristics, features, and integration capabilities
- Ability to motivate in a team-oriented, collaborative environment with satisfaction in helping others become more effective
- Ability to be composed and adaptive in a dynamic, fast-paced, customer-focused work environment characterized by rapid change, minimal lead times, and multiple competing priorities
