We are looking for talented DevOps Engineers to help us create industry-leading end-to-end customer experiences for next-gen video and digital home solutions, incorporating superior performance, reliability and flexibility by design. We are the Future Friendly Home Services DevOps group, responsible for the end-to-end technology development and operations of TELUS’ Optik TV services, video and over-the-top services, broadband network capabilities, smart home solutions and software-defined wide area network (SD-WAN) solutions. It’s an exciting time to be a part of our mission to drive better outcomes through customer-centric, state-of-the-art software platforms.
 


Here's how

  • Provide systems administration and technical consultation for TV middleware platforms
  • Monitor multi-tiered application environments, utilizing various monitoring tools
  • Analyse system/application designs and implementations from a technology perspective; design and deploy solutions to problems that are identified
  • Ability to triage errors to assign tickets to the proper squads
  • Ticket triaging and ticket management
  • Own and address complex customer issues, end-to-end, from assessment and interpretation to recommendation and resolution
  • Conduct reviews, evaluations, and risk assessments
  • Deploying, configuring and managing cloud architectures and technologies on GCP (Compute Engine, Cloud Functions, Cloud Storage, Cloud SQL, Data Store)
  • Troubleshoot and recover complex cloud infrastructure and application issues
  • Troubleshoot and apply learnings to establish new protocols and best practices
  • Ensure proper documentation, standards and operational readiness as part of successful project delivery
  • Apply and advance change management best practices, to support existing and new evolving technologies
  • Collaborate with and foster strong relationships with internal stakeholders, and externally with product vendors
  • Proactively drive process improvements
  • Development of improvement procedures, and strategies
  • Help ensure that our systems and infrastructure are designed and implemented to the highest standards

Qualifications

You're the missing piece of the puzzle

  • With 5+ years of relevant experience, advanced technical and analytical skills, confident in making and owning technical decisions
  • Experience in supporting large scale, highly availability services and applications in an enterprise environment
  • Support specific customer issues through assessment, interpretation, resolution or recommendations
  • Experience in incident management, problem management, operational excellence, within a highly available 24x7x365 environment
  • Willing to work as part of an on-call rotation during holidays/weekends/overnight. (Regular working hours are day time business hours)
  • Adherence to strict change management processes and procedures
  • Operational system administration, and infrastructure build and deployment experience in a large scale enterprise environment
  • Experience with cloud-native tools and cloud environments (GCP, AWS, Azure, Linode, etc.)
  • Experience with Kubernetes on premise and/or as a managed service in the cloud
  • Experience in SQL and NoSQL database engines such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MongoDB, Cassandra, etc., including architecture, setup, maintaining, and troubleshooting
  • Experience with containerized solutions leveraging OpenShift, Kubernetes, and/or Docker
  • Experience with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, or Chef
  • Experience with web application services and reverse proxies such as Apache, Varnish, JBoss, NGINX, HAProxy, or Traefik
  • Experience with monitoring and alerting tools such as New Relic, Splunk, SCOM, Nagios, etc
  • Knowledge of cloud architectures
  • Operational knowledge of TCP/IP and software defined networking concepts
  • Proficiency in advanced troubleshooting tools such as packet sniffers and debuggers
  • Proficiency in scripting (Bash, Python, Ruby)
  • Proficiency with reporting tools such as Power BI, Tableau, etc. and ability to generate reports and dashboards when needed
  • Agile/DevOps methodologies and experience with CI/CD tooling such as Jenkins, GitLab, Chef, Cloud Deployment Manager, or equivalent CI/CD pipeline tools
  • Experience building positive relationships and collaborating with a variety of diverse groups and technical teams
  • Self-starter, willing to seek and accept responsibility
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with confidence conducting presentations to both peers and senior management
  • Bachelors of Computer Science or Electrical Engineering degree 

 

Great-to-haves

  • Programming experience in languages such as Python, Go, Node.js, Ruby, etc
  • Google Cloud, Amazon Web Services, or Azure certification
  • 5-10 years of enterprise or telecommunications IT experience
  • Experience with deployment and support of mobile and STB applications via Google, Apple, Amazon, and etc. platforms
  • Detailed knowledge of IP Video delivery infrastructure, setup, and support
