The Lab Technician conducts specified testing with clients and provides support to patients, physicians and administrative staff as required.
Responsibilities
- Collecting laboratory specimens and/or packaging samples for pick up by lab courier
- Completion of blood draws
- Completion of urine dipsticks
- Preparing FIT tests for pick up
- Preparing Pap smears for pick up
- Completion of DOT & Non-DOT drug testing, as well as all related paperwork
- Conducting vision, hearing and spirometry testing
- Coordinating external referrals and communicating with other physicians’ offices
- Supporting physicians as required
- Ensuring examination rooms and change rooms are tidy and fully stocked with medical supplies and toiletries
- Preparing client files ahead of appointments
- Checking clients in and out of clinic, and collecting payments
- Supporting the front desk in between lab draws to provide break coverage
- Ordering medical supplies for the clinic
- Other administrative duties, as required
Qualifications
Required Knowledge
- Post-secondary diploma in medical lab technologies
- Minimum of one year previous and relevant experience preferred
- Experience and certified with vaccine handling and administration as per Ontario Health guidelines
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision while delivering the highest level of patient care
- Professionalism, respect for confidentiality and commitment to a superior level of customer satisfaction
- Experience and interest in preventative health and education with desire for growth
- Self-starter who is efficient and demonstrates a high level of attention to detail, accountability and sound judgment
- Demonstrates flexibility and the ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Works well under pressure and demonstrates a sense of urgency in completing time sensitive tasks
- Demonstrates effective organizational, multitasking and problem solving abilities
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint)
