The latest emerging open interfaces and virtualizes RAN (Radio Access Network) technology, brings with it an exciting opportunity for TELUS to build a new open and cloud-based RAN network. We are embracing disruption, reimagining network services capabilities, and driving innovation to accelerate new Cloud RAN technology adoption.

 

Introducing our new Cloud RAN Infrastructure DevOps team which will oversee the development and operations of next GEN 5G Cloud RAN/Open RAN technology from hardware to software on the TELUS wireless network. Working with our TELUS Chief Technology Office, stakeholders, and vendors, you will take on responsibilities for Open RAN mix and match technology design, development and production support, including Open front-haul interface, etc. This is an exciting opportunity to be an integral part of the RAN Integration & Innovation team.

 

What you’ll do   

 

  • Integrate Open RAN (O-RU, O-DU, and O-CU), cell site hub/switch. and transport network in TELUS lab, and support production trial/deployment/operation
  • Develop TELUS Open front-haul interface profile/Spec, and align with O-RU and O-DU/O-CU vendors
  • Validate Open RAN open protocols, call flow and system performance, i.e./U-plane, S-Plane, M-plane, etc.
  • Lead cell site hub/switch development, including, CPRI/eCPRI conversion, L2/L3 switching functions/protocols and time Synchronization
  • Communicate/clarify TELUS requirements to vendors and lab support teams and evaluates responses
  • Work on detailed analysis of E2E system logs and subscriber traces to pinpoint and resolve integration issues 
  • Optimize integration procedures, software upgrade and rollback procedures for each element or service
  • Write and update integration engineering guideline and design documents
  • Interact and influence vendors’ RAN technology roadmap to align with TELUS RAN network evolution 
  • Validate technical requirements to industry/TELUS standards and the functional and performance requirements by supporting interoperability with other systems, etc.
  • Support system level issue troubleshooting 

Qualifications

 

 

What you bring

 

  • 5+ years’ working knowledge on LTE/5G RF implementation, and proficient in wireless network RAN infrastructure (Macro cell, small cell), FDD/TDD, and L1/L2/L3 protocols (i.e. TCP/IP)
  • Well versed in the theory and operation of network protocols - TCP/IP, IPv4, IPv6, layer 2/3 forwarding/switching concepts, IPSec, and routing protocols
  • Familiarity with 3GPP specifications and O-RAN Alliance open interface protocols and requirement including air interface, CPRI/eCPRI, front-haul/mid-haul (F1)/transport, FAPI/nFAPI, IP synchronization (C1/C2/C3), Open front-haul IOT profile, RIC/SMO, etc.
  • Direct experience and knowledge of the industry leading suppliers of network switches, i.e. Juniper, Cisco, etc.
  • Strong understanding of RF technology, including signal, Waveform, the advanced RAN features 
  • Good experience in ORAN system integration, testing and troubleshooting (system logs, OS logs, UE logs, network logs, etc.)
  • Experience with UE, RF and O-RAN testing tools such as Keysight, Viavi, R&S preferred 
  • 3+ or more years performing RAN hardware or software feature lab evaluations including and not limited to proof of concept. Experience in writing test plans for different scenarios, collecting requirements from users
  • Ability to provide on demand, specialized technical solution for a number of wide ranging problems 
  • A strong sense of urgency and desire to drive issues to closure
  • Bachelor or Master Degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or an equivalent

 

Great-to-haves

 

  • Experience with SR-IOV, SDN, Open vSwitch, etc. 
  • Knowledge and practice on network virtualization and Cloud deployment, including COTS servers and rack servers architecture, Linux/K8s/Container, AWS/Google/OpenShift/Wind River Cloud
