Description
The impact you’ll make and what we’ll accomplish together
As the Privacy Engineer, supported by the Director of Privacy & Innovation, you will materially influence the ongoing development of TELUS’ business innovation focused on supporting the growth of the business along with the development, deployment, and use of new digital technologies.
You will collaborate with, advise and guide the business to embed privacy by design principles from the first stages of development to ensure data practices meet our rigorous privacy, security and ethical standards, and in a manner that demonstrates TELUS commitment to putting customers and their privacy first.
You will be an integral member of the Data & Trust Office. This team is tasked with solving some of our organization's most complex challenges while building a thriving community of practice around data ethics and data governance.
You will be a champion for Privacy & Innovation and you will advocate for TELUS’ Trust Model as the fundamental driver for all of our decisions around data, recognizing how critical customer and team member trust is to TELUS’ mission.
Here’s how:
- Identity opportunities to build or procure privacy-enhancing technologies, including to support the use of de-identification and synthetic data
- Advise on how privacy-enhancing technologies can serve as an enabler for business program operations and assist with their deployment within the organization
- Architect solutions to enable algorithmic fairness and explainability, data quality monitoring, and the development and implementation of data validation and testing strategies
- Support the development of a data analytics program to deploy or leverage technology responsibly and ethically always in a manner that demonstrates TELUS’ commitment to putting customers and their privacy first
- Develop the design and documentation of processes that standardize best practices in privacy engineering and support an agile development methodology
- Educate and advise business units on existing or new data uses, and provide innovative strategies and creative solutions to address privacy, compliance and data governance considerations
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure adherence to the TELUS’ Trust Model
Qualifications
You are the missing piece of the puzzle
- Demonstrated track record of providing subject matter expertise in embedded privacy by design into product and services while delivering on measurable outcomes for our customers and our businesses in a highly complex stakeholder environment
- Familiarity with privacy-enhancing technologies (e.g. differential privacy, federated learning, synthetic data, etc.) and demonstrated working knowledge or understanding of software engineering fundamentals and lifecycle development
- Familiarity with statistics, algorithms, and machine learning tools to analyze and evaluate fair and ethical AI
- Passionate about privacy, data ethics and the imperative to use data to solve big and small problems
- Keen to explore new and creative solutions to change the trajectory of persistent challenges and motivated to bring those solutions to life
- Appreciated for your excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, and your ability to distill complex and/or ambiguous problems into clear, actionable requirements
- Known for your ability to influence and negotiate effectively, to be a persuasive advocate, and known for your conflict resolution skills with a focus on win-win solutions
- Sought out for excellent communication skills, verbal & written, with the ability to present information at all levels of the organization and leadership forums
- 3-5 years experience in privacy / data protection or a graduate degree or concentration in privacy engineering
- Post-secondary degree in computer science, computer engineering, information systems, privacy engineering, or related field of study
- Certification in Privacy (e.g., CDPSE, CIPT, CIPM, CIPP certification)
Great-to-haves
- Experience is proactively embedding privacy considerations into product design
- Experience with the development, design, and architecture of IT technology, data management, and data integration processes
- Experience with design for software applications running on multiple platforms
- Experience with web architecture and the privacy and security model of the web
- Bilingual in French & English, verbal and/or written
