As a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) & Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) Strategist for TELUS Business, you will own and execute organic search strategies that drive qualified traffic to our business pages on telus.com/business. You'll collaborate closely with content, product, engineering, and paid media team members to optimize our digital presence across both traditional search engines and answer engines like ChatGPT and Perplexity. This is a high-impact, highly visible role where your work will directly influence how our customers and Canadian businesses discover TELUS.
What you'll do
- Develop and execute comprehensive SEO and AEO strategies for TELUS Business pages
- Conduct in-depth keyword research across both traditional search and conversational AI-driven search behaviours to identify high-value search opportunities aligned with
- business objectives and seasonal campaigns (e.g., device launches, Black Friday)
- Directly implement SEO/AEO updates directly within the CMS (e.g., metadata, header tags, schema markup, internal linking, and content updates)
- Perform regular technical SEO audits and work with engineering teams to resolve issues related to crawlability, indexation, site speed, and Core Web Vitals
- Collaborate with content writers and UX teams to develop SEO-optimized landing pages, product descriptions, editorial content, and content designed for ranking and answer extraction
- Monitor, analyze, and report on both organic search KPIs and emerging AEO metrics
- Conduct competitive analysis to identify gaps and opportunities in the Canadian telecom SEO and AEO landscape
- Stay current on Google algorithm updates, answer engine developments, and industry best practices, proactively adapting strategies as needed
- Partner with other teams to align on keyword strategies and maximize blended SERP presence
- Contribute to quarterly SEO/AEO roadmaps
- Lead ongoing testing and experimentation initiatives
- Present findings and recommendations to stakeholders across the business
Qualifications
What you bring
- 3–5 years of experience within a corporate or agency setting
- Hands-on experience implementing SEO and demonstrated exposure to AEO, AI search and emerging search technologies
- Proven track record of improving organic search rankings and driving measurable traffic growth
- Strong proficiency with SEO tools: Google Search Console, SEMrush or Ahrefs, Screaming Frog, and Google Analytics / Adobe Analytics
- Solid understanding of technical SEO fundamentals (e.g. schema markup, crawl budget, hreflang, structured data)
- Experience with on-page and content optimization strategies, including the ability to independently execute these strategies
- Familiarity with AI search and visibility platforms (e.g. Profound, Peec AI, or similar tools) and ability to evaluate brand presence within AI-generated responses
- Ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent practical experience
Nice to have
- Experience in the telecommunications or e-commerce industry, especially for B2B
- Familiarity with A/B testing methodologies
- Understanding of how to measure and report on AEO performance
- Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, or JavaScript as it relates to SEO
- Google Analytics 4 (GA4) certification or equivalent
- Experience with a headless CMS
- Understanding of Canadian search behaviour and market nuances
