The Technology Business Office (TBO) is a strategic hub driving operational excellence and service-oriented architecture across wireless and wireline networks. In this role, you’ll shape impactful capital strategies, define future-ready technology roadmaps, and craft seamless service architectures. Your expertise in program management, service analytics, and service innovation will ensure the timely delivery of key initiatives bringing new revenue and boost service performance. As a customer experience champion, you’ll collaborate with Product and DevOps teams to align goals and implement strategies that truly enhance our customers’ experience.

We're seeking an experienced API Architect to join our innovative team developing cutting-edge Telco Network APIs. This role will bridge the gap between our telecom expertise and the developer ecosystem, driving the creation of high-value APIs that unlock the power of 5G, IMS, and core network capabilities.


What you’ll do

 

  • Collaborate with telecom subject matter experts to identify and prioritize network capabilities suitable for API exposure
  • Design scalable, developer-friendly APIs following industry best practices and standards (e.g. REST, GraphQL, OpenAPI)
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, or C++
  • Publish and Follow the best practices for APIs documentation like swagger etc.
  • Experience with API management tools like Apigee, Postman, or Swagger etc.
  • Leverage GenAI tools to accelerate API development, documentation, and prototyping
  • Create compelling API demonstrations and prototypes to showcase potential use cases to product teams and customers
  • Guide the implementation of a robust API management platform, including developer portals, analytics, and monetization capabilities
  • Stay current with API trends, tools, and technologies in both telecom and web-scale companies

What you bring

 

  • 5+ years of experience designing and developing APIs, preferably in a large-scale or cloud environment
  • Strong understanding of API design principles, security best practices, and common industry standards
  • Familiarity with telecom networks and protocols is a plus
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Google, Microsoft), particularly experience with services those related to API development and management
  • Proficiency in using GenAI tools for code generation, documentation, and rapid prototyping
  • Excellent story telling and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Track record of successful collaboration with cross-functional teams
  • Great-to-haves
  • Knowledge of CAMARA, TM Forum, or other telecom API initiatives
  • Experience with Cloud Technologies, JSON, authentication (e.g. OAuth 2.0), API Gateways
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience with GenAI tools and code generation techniques
  • Familiarity with/ willing to learn 5G network slicing, edge computing, or network exposure functions (NEF)
  • Understanding of API monetization strategies and business models 

 

Location: Any major Canadian city
Salary Range:  $103,000-$155,000
Performance Bonus or Sales Incentive Plan:  15%

Actual total compensation will be determined based on factors such as knowledge, skills, performance and experience. In addition, TELUS offers rewarding benefits such as:
