Position overview:

 

The Senior Communications Manager reports to the Manager of Executive Communications and provides strategic writing and communications support for TELUS’ President and CEO. A proven high performer with extensive experience, this professional delivers end-to-end communications plans and develops exceptional content that enables leaders and team members across the organization to deliver on TELUS’ business objectives. This role is a 14-month contract from June 2023 to August 2024.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Develop best-in-class, timely and consistent internal and external communications that support the company’s business strategy and the needs of TELUS’ President and CEO, on both a proactive and reactive basis
  • Lead communications best practices within the organization, demonstrating expert writing skills and a broad and deep understanding of the business
  • Leverage resources and relationships, as well as strong research capabilities, to develop comprehensive communications regarding any business area within TELUS and the telecom industry
  • Create communication strategies, tactics and metrics that inform and engage audiences, drive business priorities and elevate the TELUS brand 
  • Collaborate effectively with other business units to provide communications, program and event support that align with business priorities and team member engagement objectives

 

Qualifications

 

Required knowledge and skills:

 

  • Exceptional writing, editing, proof-reading, researching and storytelling skills
  • Proven expertise in writing compelling speeches, strategic internal communications, captivating opinion editorial pieces, fulsome award submissions, meaningful media quotes and other communications
  • Demonstrated ability to embrace ambiguity and make the best decision based on the information available in a fast-paced and fluid environment
  • Technical ability to create and distribute digital communications using a variety of software programs
  • Extraordinary client service and consultative approach to managing a demanding and sophisticated audience at the organization’s most senior levels and across all teams
  • Exceptional project management and organizational skills, as well as the ability to prioritize effectively in order to balance competing interests
  • Ability to understand, analyze and optimize complex business problems, issues and challenges
  • Keen observer of the general business environment, industry trends, competitive and regulatory issues and current affairs as they may relate to TELUS
  • Sound understanding of TELUS’ brand, social purpose, values and corporate priorities

 

Required experience:

 

  • Minimum of five years’ experience in a senior communications manager role, writing speeches and communications for corporate executives
  • Advanced working knowledge of Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Adobe Campaign and other digital technology products
  • Bilingual in English and French (oral and written) is an asset

 

Required professional designation/certification:

 

  • University Degree or equivalent experience
  • Additional post-secondary education, an Accredited Public Relations or an Accredited Business Communicator designation are considered assets
