The Data Engineering and Metadata Management team is on a continuous journey toward helping TELUS become a world-class leader in data solutions by ensuring the delivery of robust data products, high-quality data, and comprehensive metadata solutions built upon unified, scalable platforms and advanced AI tooling.
We are searching for a talented candidate to fill the position of Senior Data Engineering Consultant within our Metadata Management and Data Quality team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and implementing enterprise-scale metadata solutions and products that drive digital transformation across the organization. As a key technical expert in our cloud-first organization, you will leverage your deep analytical expertise to architect metadata products including the integration to upstream and downstream systems, leveraging our Cloud Platform services. This role combines advanced technical proficiency in metadata management, data engineering (SQL, Python), Collibra’s Data Intelligence Platform and cloud architecture with hands-on development experience in Java, APIs, GCP tools along with the ability to establish and evangelize enterprise level data governance and metadata management best practices and standards across TELUS.
What you will do
- Lead the architecture and design of metadata products and platforms with a focus on metadata management and data quality frameworks across on-prem and cloud environments
- Contribute to the design, development and support of a variety of integration and process automation techniques to ensure accurate consumption and ingestion of business and technical metadata to and from many systems.
- Design and develop APIs to enable programmatic retrieval and management of metadata by consumers external to the metadata management platform.
- Ensure reliable and consistent processing to our Collibra’ Data Intelligence Platform and automate information lifecycle management processes using web enabled workflows.
- Design and build robust metadata integration solutions that ensure data lineage, cataloging, and quality controls are embedded throughout the data lifecycle
- Expertise with Collibra data intelligence platform administration - including but not limited to upgrades, managing system activities, tenant administration, user groups creation etc.
- Perform application impact assessments, requirements reviews, and develop comprehensive work estimates for complex data engineering initiatives
- Develop test strategies and site reliability engineering measures to ensure high availability and performance of data products and solutions
- Lead agile development scrums and product oriented development
- Facilitate solution reviews with cross-functional teams including business partners, domain architects, and product management
- Mentor junior team members, providing technical guidance and fostering their professional growth
- Lead resolution of critical operations issues and conduct post-implementation reviews to drive continuous improvement
- Identify opportunities for automation in development and production processes to reduce manual effort and improve efficiency
- Propose solutions that enable business objectives while advancing enterprise technology strategies and metadata management capabilities
What you bring
- 6+ years of data engineering experience with 4+ years focused on integration and API solution architecture and design
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent
- You are sought out for your strong understanding of Metadata Management, Data Quality, Data Lineage, Data Management and Data Engineering.
- You are respected for your knowledge of Solution Development and Data Management Lifecycles.
- Advanced proficiency in programming languages, including Python, Java, Springboot, Groovy
- You are recognized for your understanding of integration patterns including RESTful architecture and patterns, APIs, event driven architecture and AI architecture.
- You are hands on in Windows Operating Systems, Unix, Linux, JSOn, Yaml, Swagger and with GCP Kubernetes (GKE), GCP Development (Dataflow, Composer, Cloud Run, Cloud Scheduler, Dataproc, Workflow etc) and deployment using a CI/CD pipeline including Git
- Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring technical team members, driving technical excellence, and influencing architectural decisions across the organization
- Strong SQL and database proficiency with minimum 2 years of hands-on experience across various database technologies
- Intermediate to Advanced proficiency in Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, Puppet, or Ansible
- Systems design experience with the ability to architect and explain complex systems interactions, data flows, common interfaces, and APIs
- Proven proficiency with Collibra’s Data Intelligence Platform, experienced in designing and implementing solutions and capabilities
- Experience with Dataplex / Knowledge Catalogue and other Data Governance & Metadata Platforms
- You have Architecture-level understanding of APIs, security architecture, and cloud-native development across major cloud providers including GCP.
- You are an expert communicator and strategic thinker, able to provide a consultative approach in alignment with the Telco Management Industry Framework.
- You are an excellent and effective presenter able to communicate ideas in a clear and concise manner.
- You are an effective influencer and negotiator, able to be persuasive while upholding commitments to our customers, stakeholders and TELUS' commitment to integrity.
