As a team member on TELUS Health’s RAPIDS team, you will be part of a small team that is currently building an industry leading mental health clinical decision support system that will revolutionize the way mental health care is provided in Canada. You are the missing piece of the puzzle
As a senior design specialist for TELUS Health’s RAPIDS decision support system, you will be part of a small software development team.  You will work closely with leading Canadian psychiatrists and providers, health professionals, business analysts and software developers, to build, configure, and document a system of automated rules that guide insurers and providers in the area of mental health patient care.  You will be part of a nationally distributed team that empowers its team members, for quick and collaborative decision making, and that encourages innovation – successes and failures.
You are flexible, adaptable, and a self-starter who thrives in a rapidly changing environment. You have an aptitude and a desire to experiment and learn new things both collaboratively and independently.  As a design specialist for the decision support system, you will collaboratively work with industry leading.  
You will be responsible for evolving RAPIDS’ current rule system to a complex model of interconnected rules. You will work quickly and iteratively to evolve the system of rules, becoming the resident expert in mental health rules management and decision support. With the product manager, business analysts, and development team, you will transform the shared product vision into a highly reliable, secure, innovative health product that will revolutionize mental health care in Canada. 

You are


  • Interested in taking on new challenges, in working in a highly ambiguous, fast-moving, and dynamic environment, setting-up a new mental health management information management solution, from the ground up.
  • A leader with a mastery of business and systems analysis, capable of writing functional code, and eliciting knowledge and developing user requirements.
  • An exceptional team player with excellent interpersonal skills who is effective in interacting with a variety of stakeholders 
  • A quick learner that is able to learn and study systems (from simple to complex), and that is also able to quickly pick-up new technologies.
  • Able to effectively problem solve and make decisions under pressure

  • Work closely with other team members, industry-leading health care providers, a business team, and a technical team, to develop and integrate clinical decision logic into a clinical system of rules and workflows.
  • Participate in the elicitation of domain knowledge with expert mental health clinicians and develop technical models that reflect this domain knowledge
  • Implement technical models using industry standards and tools: flowcharting, data modeling, Drools rules engine, DMN, BPMN.
  • Control application and rules systems quality by working closely with a team of data, software, and quality engineers.
  • Ensure adequate automation around rules system quality management
  • Deliver clear and effective demos, showing working models in a non-technical way (e.g. partner demos, user conferences, etc.).
  • Work with BA & development team to develop working prototypes for demos with stakeholder groups.
  • Be involved in all aspects of the project life cycle, from technical feasibility input into requirements definition, design, development, testing, integration and implementation. 



You have


  • A BS/BA in Computer Science or Information Systems or Business Management, or equivalent.
  • Experience in the Health sector, preferably in primary care or insurance
  • Strong conceptual, analytic and problem solving skills
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic understanding of healthcare interoperability standards (HL7, FHIR, SMART on FHIR, etc.)

Demonstrable experience in the following


  • Working under pressure, and meeting deadlines
  • Development and delivery of decision support systems, business logic, platforms, data models, and APIs.
  • Analyzing business processes and eliciting end-user knowledge, and converting these into high-level system designs, flowcharts, diagrams, etc.
  • Implementing and writing business rules using rules engines (eg, Rulebook, Drools, Camunda), as well as BPMN and DMN standards
  • Writing and developing working software
  • Working with FHIR
  • Workflow and decision support systems, languages and notations (eg, Drools Rule Language, DMN, BPMN)
  • Implementing and testing features and functionalities.
  • Working in an Agile environment with a strong understanding of Agile methodology
  • Integrating with varying third-party products using varying technologies and tools (OAuth, SAML, SOAP, JSON, XML, FHIR and SMART on FHIR, etc.).
  • Building applications with privacy and security by design

Hands on healthcare IT systems integration (HL7, FHIR) is highly desirable
