Description

Our team and what we'll accomplish together

You'll join the Predictive Analytics & Customer Experience team—a group that powers real-time decision-making for millions of TELUS customers. We design and maintain cloud-native data pipelines that feed insights driving everything from customer retention strategies to fraud detection and network optimization.

In this role, you'll independently build scalable analytics solutions on Google Cloud Platform that enable our AI and BI teams to transform raw data into actionable insights. Your work directly impacts how TELUS understands and serves its customers—releasing new data solutions weekly that drive measurable business outcomes. You'll collaborate with a friendly, cross-disciplinary agile team of engineers, analysts, and product leaders who care deeply about quality and are genuinely invested in each other's growth.

What you'll do

Day-to-day, you'll split your time between independent problem-solving and collaborative innovation. Mornings might find you designing a new data pipeline architecture; afternoons, you'll debug solutions alongside your team, present technical decisions to stakeholders, and mentor engineers working through similar challenges.

Core responsibilities:

  • Independently design and develop cloud-native data pipelines on Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery, Dataflow, Cloud Storage, Cloud Composer, Pub/Sub) that ingest, process, and serve data from our enterprise data lake to power analytics across the organization

  • Own end-to-end solution design from requirements gathering through production deployment, with architectural guidance from senior leads but final decision-making authority on technical approaches

  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners—including AI engineers, BI analytics leads, and customer outcome teams—to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions that move the needle on real business outcomes

  • Build and optimize complex SQL queries and Python data processing applications that meet enterprise-grade standards for performance, quality, security, and accessibility

  • Support the team in evaluating Google Cloud technology choices, testing solutions, and implementing best practices in development, security, and data governance

  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the data engineering practice by applying modern Infrastructure as Code principles, documenting solutions, and sharing technical knowledge that elevates the team's capabilities

  • Ensure production reliability by deploying, testing, and maintaining analytics pipelines with a commitment to high-quality service delivery for our internal and external customers

What you bring

Must-haves:

  • Google Professional Data Engineer Certification (required)

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines and analytics solutions (GCP preferred; deep expertise in other major cloud platforms with strong GCP fundamentals acceptable)

  • Advanced SQL skills including ability to build complex, performant queries for large-scale data sets

  • Strong Python programming skills with experience building production-grade data processing applications

  • Solid conceptual understanding of ETL/ELT processes, data pipeline architecture, databases, data warehouses, and data lakes

Nice-to-haves:

  • Version control (Git) and Infrastructure as Code experience

  • Familiarity with Google Cloud security best practices and data governance frameworks

  • Experience with data visualization tools (Looker, Google Data Studio, or Tableau Cloud)

  • Exposure to Google AppScript or full-stack JavaScript for internal tooling and automation

  • Experience working in regulated industries where data compliance matters

How you work:

  • You learn new cloud technologies and programming languages quickly and independently

  • You thrive collaborating across multiple teams and disciplines—you ask good questions and share knowledge generously

  • You have strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing quality, maintainable code

  • You're comfortable operating in agile environments with iterative delivery and regular stakeholder feedback
