Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer, the VP, Communications will lead transformational change with a clear mandate to evolve our communications function for the future. What you'll do

 

Strategic Investor Relations Partnership

 

  • Establish a strategic partnership with the Investor Relations (IR) team, elevating how we integrate communications into investor meetings, earnings announcements, and financial disclosures
  • Leverage finance announcements strategically in media to strengthen TELUS positioning
  • Build an integrated framework that ensures Communications drives strategic value across all IR activities

 

Media Relations & Brand Positioning

 

  • Cultivate strong, strategic relationships with top-tier media to position TELUS effectively in the market
  • Develop a proactive media strategy that showcases TELUS' leadership in social purpose, innovation, healthcare transformation, and connectivity
  • Create compelling narratives that elevate TELUS' brand and competitive positioning

 

Organizational Innovation & Transformation

 

  • Evolve the communications structure and operational model to a centralized corporate communications function that drives efficiency and impact
  • Lead global communications optimization across TELUS, TELUS Health, TELUS Digital, and TELUS Agriculture & Consumer Goods to create a cohesive, integrated approach
  • Champion AI adoption and innovation across the communications function to accelerate deliverables and enhance productivity
  • Optimize cross-functional collaboration with business units, establishing best-in-class processes and service delivery models that support our matrix organization

 

Core Leadership Responsibilities

 

  • Build and inspire a best-in-class Communications organization
  • Create and execute an annual strategic plan with innovative programs to engage TELUS team members and external stakeholders
  • Consult and coach business leaders across multiple business units with creative communications solutions that drive business results
  • Provide thought leadership on emerging digital, social media, and AI-powered communications trends; team member engagement; executive communications; culture transformation; change communication; crisis management; and measurement
  • Foster a continuous improvement and growth mindset, constantly seeking opportunities to increase ROI and enhance stakeholder experience
  • Develop and own KPIs and financial budgets; provide metric reporting to measure quality and success
  • Attract, develop, and retain top communications talent; coach team members to achieve performance and career goals

  • Matrix Organization Expertise: Proven experience navigating and succeeding in a complex matrix organization with multiple business units
  • Transformational Change Leadership: Track record of leading large-scale organizational transformations, including evolving communications functions and operational models

Global & Cross-Cultural Experience

 

  • Experience supporting communications across multiple geographies and entities
  • Understanding of how to optimize communications structures globally
  • Ability to work effectively across diverse cultures and business models

Experience & Education

 

  • 10+ years of experience in senior corporate communications roles within large, complex corporate environments or top-tier PR agencies
  • Demonstrated track record of leading transformational programs and working with C-suite executives
  • Proven history of strategic decision-making and synthesizing information for executive leadership
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, English, or Business/Commerce
  • Master's degree and/or professional accreditation (ABC, APR) considered strong assets

Advanced knowledge of English is required because you will most of the time interact in English with external parties (clients, suppliers, candidates, external partners, etc.); interact in English with internal parties (colleagues, internal partners, stakeholders, etc.); and work with IT tools whose interface is only accessible in English as part of this position's main responsibilities given its national scope.

Salary Range:
