As the Director of Building Operations, you will play a key role in maintaining safe, efficient, and innovative environments across a national portfolio of over 2,700 facilities. You’ll help shape the future of facilities management while delivering consistent, high-quality service across the country.

 

In this critical role, you’ll work alongside senior leaders and cross-functional teams to develop national standards, drive operational excellence, and pioneer innovation. Your focus will be on ensuring our buildings support our people and operations reliably and sustainably, all while nurturing a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

 

As Director, Building Operations, you’ll empower a high-performing, geographically dispersed team dedicated to facility maintenance, building systems, and vendor management. You will drive simplification and standardization, transformation and innovation — while building a culture rooted in learning, collaboration and continuous improvement. You will standardize practices, modernize infrastructure, and drive long-term value — all while helping ensure safe, productive environments for our employees and customers. 

 

 

What you’ll do

 

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a national team of facilities professionals as a collaborative strategist
  • Develop and execute strategies to enhance infrastructure reliability, reduce risk, and improve operational and energy efficiency across over 2,700 sites
  • Own end-to-end facilities operations including HVAC, electrical, fire/safety systems, janitorial, and grounds maintenance, ensuring consistent service delivery and regulatory compliance
  • Standardize building operations practices across all regions, while maintaining the flexibility needed to meet local site requirements
  • Oversee significant capital and operating budgets, vendor performance, and long-term asset management plans
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with internal stakeholders and external service providers, aligning on maintenance schedules, capital projects, and service levels
  • Advocate innovation by integrating smart building technologies and digital tools — including building automation systems and analytics — to enhance visibility, responsiveness, and sustainability
  • Design resilient, adaptable facilities management systems focused on risk mitigation, emergency preparedness, and business continuity
  • Establish and monitor KPIs to measure building performance, operational efficiency, and service quality, continuously driving improvements through data and feedback

Qualifications

 

What you bring

 

  • 10+ years in facilities or building operations, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role overseeing complex, multi-site infrastructure portfolios
  • Demonstrated holistic understanding of synthesizing complex operational ecosystems with sustainable business-aligned solutions
  • Proven experience developing and executing long-term facilities management strategies aligned with organizational objectives
  • Success orchestrating large-scale change initiatives and integrating modern technologies in large, distributed environments
  • Strong vendor and contractor management experience focused on value, quality, and performance
  • Data-informed decision-maker with experience using building analytics, asset management platforms, and performance metrics
  • Background in sustainable facilities practices, including energy efficiency, emissions reduction, and lifecycle planning
  • Outstanding communication, negotiation, and influence skills — especially in executive and cross-functional settings
  • Recognized as a nurturing visionary who builds high-performing, engaged teams across diverse locations

 

Great-to-haves

 

  • Professional designation in facilities management or related field
  • Bilingual in English and French
  • Willingness to travel across Canada
Salary Range:  $131,000-$197,000
Performance Bonus or Sales Incentive Plan:  30%

Actual total compensation will be determined based on factors such as knowledge, skills, performance and experience. In addition, TELUS offers rewarding benefits such as:
