Reporting to the Director Taxation, the Manager International Tax will be part of a team over 60 tax professionals, 5 of which are international tax professionals and will leverage their in-depth knowledge of income taxation primarily to support the planning and execution of Canadian international and non US income tax (“International Tax”). You will work to improve operational efficiencies, ensure compliance with tax laws, and manage International Tax audits. You will monitor International Tax developments and implement changes to ensure timely compliance with the legislation.

 

Here’s how

 

  • Assist in managing TELUS’ International Tax risk while complying with our Tax Strategy EN and tax laws, and working with internal and external stakeholders
  • Support a broad range of internal initiatives as they relate to International Tax including mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, corporate reorganizations, process and efficiency initiatives and treasury activities
  • Reviewing and analyzing corporate financial records, researching and determining proper tax treatment for a wide variety of transactions, preparing and reviewing International Tax returns, and reviewing assessments and tax payments
  • Tax planning and compliance for Canadian outbound and inbound foreign affiliate investments including preparation of surplus calculations, FAPI calculations, Pillar Two calculations and Country-by-Country Reporting (CBCr), maintaining data on tax attributes, monitoring intercompany transactions (e.g. loans, cash repatriation, etc.), and supporting withholding tax compliance
  • Preparing and/or reviewing business unit quarterly and year-end income tax provisions and compliance with SOX
  • Supporting the management of audits conducted by tax authorities with respect to International Tax including, addressing audit queries, reviewing reassessment proposals, researching legislation, preparing position papers, preparing objections, and supporting negotiation and litigation
  • Actively supporting systems implementation and other projects with a view to optimizing tax outcomes

 

 

Qualifications

 

You’re the missing piece of the puzzle

 

  • Valued for your minimum 3 years of International Tax experience, in-depth income tax knowledge and strong technical competence
  • Ability to analyze complex issues and transactions including reviewing and researching technical tax materials and legislation, identifying alternatives and assessing their strengths and weaknesses, and making practical recommendations aligned with corporate goals and initiatives while managing tax risk
  • Engaging communicator with strong verbal and written communications skills and excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact confidently with business stakeholders, tax authorities, peers and external service providers
  • Proactive planner with the ability to scope out difficult tasks, set objectives and goals, develop schedules, prioritize multiple activities, anticipate roadblocks and manage multiple deliverables to meet deadlines and goals in a fast-paced, complex and ever-changing environment
  • Effective team member able to work well in a cross-functional team environment while creating and maintaining strong working relationships with TELUS team members from different functional areas. Willing to work toward required outcomes even when circumstances are challenging (e.g. tight deadlines, limited information or resources)
  • High degree of professionalism, integrity and ethics with a desire to learn and become a value-add team member, hands on approach to problem solving in a proactive and collaborative manner

 

Great-to-haves

 

  • University degree and CPA designation
  • In-depth knowledge of the Canadian income tax rules and filing requirements with respect to foreign affiliates to ensure compliance with the Income Tax Act (Canada)
  • Completion of CPA Canada’s In-depth Tax program
  • Strong financial and tax accounting knowledge
  • Skilled in income tax preparation and research software, SAP, Workday, Microsoft 365 Google Workspace
  • Comfortable with or enthusiastically willing to learn new technology platforms and evolving automated intelligence technologies such as prompt engineering with Generative Artificial Intelligence software, e.g. Chat-GPT

Salary Range:  $96,000-$144,000
Performance Bonus or Sales Incentive Plan:  15%

Actual total compensation will be determined based on factors such as knowledge, skills, performance and experience. In addition, TELUS offers rewarding benefits, which may vary per job function, such as:
