Project Penny is the TELUS-wide program envelope for copper retirement activities. Penny will address network optimization with the goal to eliminate dual support cost structures between the Copper and Fibre network, fully unleashing the benefits of our generational investment in our PureFibre network. We are scaling the program and seeking team members to be part of one of the most transformational projects at TELUS.

Here’s the impact you’ll make and what we’ll accomplish together:

We’re looking for a Manager to establish and lead a centralized team supporting the center of excellence for Central Office optimization related to Project Penny and real estate development driven opportunities. This program will unlock one of the most promising opportunities created through copper retirement via Real Estate redevelopment of our Central Office locations. You are a seasoned leader, with a strong passion and aptitude for collaboration, with a significant amount of grit and network experience to solve problems, coordinate and execute on a well designed strategy.


Reporting to the Director, Program Penny, you will build and lead a team of experts on the various stages on Central Office (CO) related activities including Core, Transport, Wireless, Copper Voice Planning and Design, Build, Cut-over and migrations, logical and physical decommissioning, and the overall network program schedule for construction of new COs where needed to support priority Real Estate opportunities. To succeed in this role, the successful candidate will need to drive thought leadership, develop strong stakeholder relationships across core teams, and support various central office programs that enable copper retirement and real estate redevelopment.


This leader will be responsible for the performance and cadence of Central Office related schedules and activities and deliverables with an initial emphasis on establishing new processes, accelerating time to exit, identifying attractive quick win opportunities, creating synergies with teams throughout TELUS, and securing strategic partnerships.

  • Programmatic excellence: Juggle multiple competing priorities, make sure those around you provide information in a timely manner, and stay cognizant of what needs to be done
  • Problem solving: Collaborate across teams to identify new and innovative ideas, along with ways to drive positive outcomes across the Central Office exit portfolio





You're the missing piece of the puzzle


  • You have in-depth knowledge of building brand new business lines and can deploy this knowledge to support program thought leadership and scaling.
  • You have experience in categories such as Core Network, Transport Network, Wireless Network, Inside Design & Build, Copper voice planning (switch planning).
  • You thrive under ambiguity and are able to quantify opportunities so the appropriate decision can be made to maximize present value.
  • You have experience working in a very fast paced environment - helping gather information to support key decisions in hours or days, not weeks or months. 
  • You enjoy building relationships with key stakeholders across business units and disciplines to understand the technological feasibility of certain ideas to ensure they are realistic.
  • You aren’t afraid to challenge the status quo and ask difficult questions to drive meaningful engagement regarding a legacy technology stack.



  • University degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Business, or a related field
  • Experience with legacy copper networks, including inside and outside plant
  • Field execution or network implementation experience
  • 7-10+ years of experience in a fast-paced role
