TELUS is proud to support local communities, filmmakers and content creators through the stories we tell and content we fund. The TELUS Content Production team provides production grants, licensing fees, training and distribution opportunities to diverse filmmakers and content creators in BC and Alberta. Alongside programs TELUS STORYHIVE and maCommunaute, this role focuses on our TELUS originals portfolio.
TELUS originals, a powerhouse in Canadian documentary production, creates high-quality documentaries that reflect the kaleidoscopic Canadian experience and exemplify TELUS' social purpose values. With over a $2.5 million annual content investment, we're revolutionizing the documentary landscape in Western Canada. Our recent slate includes 10 groundbreaking documentary projects for 2025/26, including critically-acclaimed titles like Handle with Care, Chef & the Daruma, Aitamaako'tamisskapi Natosi: Before the Sun and Curl Power.
We aim to bring awareness to topics and communities who are underserved, advancing social consciousness and amplifying filmmakers' voices into spheres previously beyond their reach. Our stories have global resonance, but they start close to home - 100% of our stories have an authentic story nexus in British Columbia or Alberta.
Here's the impact you'll make and what we'll accomplish together
As Managing Production Executive & Manager, you will be the creative force driving our documentary slate, taking a showrunner-level role while leading a team of 3 accomplished production executives. This position combines creative vision with operational excellence, overseeing development through delivery of our premium content portfolio.
Here’s how:

- Spearhead creative development and production of premium documentary content aligned with TELUS social purpose pillars
- Lead greenlight decisions and creative direction for 10+ annual productions and additional content initiatives including Executive requests
- Develop and implement alternative content strategies to diversify the non-access portfolio
- Drive innovative, accessible storytelling approaches that reflect our inclusive values
- Manage a seven-figure production budget and resource allocation
- Guide the team through all production phases, including:
- Business affairs and contract management
- Editorial oversight and cut reviews
- Technical delivery requirements
- Regulatory compliance
- Stakeholder management
- Prepare and manage content approvals through our Editorial Council (TELUS Social Purpose Storyboard)
- Foster relationships with established and award-winning Canadian documentary filmmakers and production companies
- Partner with internal teams including: TELUS STORYHIVE, Content Production marketing, Ingest and merchandising, Regulatory affairs, Legal department and TELUS Fund.
- Lead development of digital projects and tools as Subject Matter Expert for TELUS originals, including but limited to: MyContentHub, TELUS.com/telusoriginals, CRM systems
- Develop original content concepts with internal teams and external partners
- Thrive in a hybrid work environment with occasional travel requirements
Qualifications
What you bring to the role

- 7+ years of showrunner or senior producer experience in documentary/unscripted content
- Demonstrated success developing and implementing 1-3 year strategic plans
- Exceptional leadership skills with proven ability to inspire high-performing teams
- Experience liaising with C-suite stakeholders and aligning creative vision with business goals
- Proven track record of delivering critically acclaimed documentary content
- Expert knowledge of production workflows and delivery requirements
- Proficiency with digital collaboration tools including Monday.com, Saleforce, G-Suite, Slack and AI products
- Strong project management and operational execution capabilities
- Deep commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in storytelling and team leadership
- Demonstrated success in mentoring diverse talent
- Established relationships within the Canadian documentary community (or proven ability to build them)
- Passion for supporting stories from LGBTQAI+, Black, Indigenous, persons with disabilities and racialized creators
- Self-starter mentality with focus on relationship building
- Strategic thinker with excellent problem-solving abilities
- Collaborative approach to team leadership and stakeholder management

- Demonstrated excellence in managing annual programs from inception through execution, including pipeline management, milestone tracking, and performance analysis
- Experience leading complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives with proven success in meeting deliverables, timelines, and budget targets
- Experience with branded content or broadcaster-driven productions
- Multi-platform content development expertise
- Understanding of Canadian broadcast landscape and funding mechanisms
- Experience supporting traditionally underrepresented communities
- Experience with distribution and promotion strategies
