Under the direction of a Radiologist, the Radiation and Mammography Medical Technologist will perform and assist with mammograms while observing patient safety practices. You will also liaise with other clinic staff, physicians and administrators to ensure effective delivery of our services. This is a Casual part time position and hours will vary depending on the clinic’s needs.
What you'll do:
- Receives and prepares patients by obtaining and completing requisitions, reviewing patient case history, and correlating clinical information with the examination to be performed.
- Assesses the nature of imaging requirements to determine appropriate testing procedures, enters patient information into diagnostic imaging and processing systems, and explains procedures to patients while addressing any questions.
- Prepares patients for diagnostic mammography examinations by explaining procedures and providing clear participation instructions. Produces and develops mammograms according to established program standards. Escalates image quality, procedural, or workflow concerns to the Site Coordinator.
- Performs breast ultrasound procedures including patient positioning, probe placement, and utilization of ultrasound techniques according to established protocols to obtain quality images. Labels permanent records, archives acquired data, and refers technical concerns to the Site Coordinator.
- Reviews resultant images for technical quality and completeness, prepares technical worksheets, and collaborates with radiologists to ensure examinations meet designated requirements.
- Facilitates efficient workflow by verifying requisition information meets departmental standards, scheduling inpatient examinations, and coordinating patient transportation according to departmental procedures. Provides patient transport as required.
- Promotes breast cancer awareness and education regarding risk factors to enhance patient adherence to screening mammography and breast self-examination guidelines.
- Identifies malfunctioning equipment and notifies supervisors of equipment issues according to established procedures.
- Carries out all responsibilities in accordance with health and safety requirements. Immediately reports unsafe situations to supervisors or appropriate personnel.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
What you bring:
- Current certification with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT)
- Successful completion of CAMRT certification requirements
- Comprehensive understanding of mammography protocols, applications, and equipment, including positioning techniques, pathology recognition, and patient care procedures
- Knowledge of professional standards of practice and guidelines established by CAMRT and other relevant national professional associations
- Proficiency in aseptic techniques and infection control protocols
- Competency in operating mammography and related diagnostic equipment
- Understanding of evidence-based practices specific to mammography and breast imaging
- Knowledge of organizational policies, procedures, and standards of care, including safe work practices with imaging equipment
- Experience with PACS/Radiology Information Systems, digital imaging, image archiving, and retrieval processes
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities
- Effective interpersonal skills when working with patients and their families, colleagues, physicians, healthcare staff, and external agency personnel
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a healthcare team
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload in consultation with team members
- Proficiency with current computer applications and technology
