The Senior Associate, Strategic Portfolio Development is a key member of a team that works closely with TELUS business units (Health, Agriculture, Business Solutions, Home Solutions, Consumer, Technology Strategy and Digital Platforms) to build beneficial relationships, understand their strategic aspirations and directions, and translate those learnings into actionable roadmaps and investment opportunities, whilst providing critical support post investment to ensure that value creation opportunities with our portfolio companies are adequately being realized.

 

You will play a key role in engaging directly with key stakeholders across our TELUS organization - and the entrepreneurs we invest in - to help their teams build and align on strategic priorities and execute against business plans. You will provide much needed support, guidance and meaningful insights that the TELUS Ventures team can bring to the operations of both groups of stakeholders.

Here's How

 

  • Develop, track and influence the TELUS Ventures team’s ongoing investment strategy by supporting the development of key business unit relationships with senior leaders from across the organization
  • Provide day-to-day executionary support to a thoughtful and well-researched engagement program lifecycle with TELUS business units; identify key stakeholders and provide bi-directional input into their future plans, including definition of capabilities needed to execute against these ambitions
  • As part of the above, stay up to date on trends in the technology industry and the current and future challenges facing TELUS, with a view to directly influence and / or provide constructive input into the future long-term strategic plans of our business units
  • Manage the curation and distillation of strategic reviews from across the Company, help determine key priorities amongst Horizon 2 and 3 initiatives, and define clear investment theses in close collaboration with the TELUS Ventures investment teams and the sponsoring TELUS Stakeholders
  • Assist in the undertaking of potential investee due diligence, including the development of business cases and post-investment commercial activation / value creation plans, in light of our overarching purpose and intent behind the investment
  • Play a key role in the successful execution, performance measurement / tracking, and assessment of active commercial activities with the broader TELUS organization by aiding the business units in resolving any key risks / roadblocks in a timely fashion, ensuring that sustainable value is being created, and evolving partnership forward as per plan

 

 

Qualification

 

What you bring

 

  • 2-3 years of experience in strategic management consulting (ideally in telecom, health or technology innovation) with top tier firm or progressive responsibility in corporate development (5+ years) or driving external partnerships/Large Complex Sales in top tier technology based organization (5+ years)
  • Proven experience in establishing and managing key stakeholder relationships, becoming their trusted advisor
  • Ability to understand technology and / or business objectives, translate those to actionable outcomes, and subsequently provide oversight / management to achieve objectives
  • Excellent presentation skills including exec briefings via PowerPoint and in person briefings
  • Exceptional project management capabilities with ability to coordinate multiple, simultaneous projects and initiatives and work within a fast-paced environment of rapid change and evolving priorities
  • Ability to push for results among peers and stakeholders external to the team, while building consensus and buy in amongst all levels
  • University degree in Technology (Computer Science/Engineering) or Business, or similar
