The TELUS Government Affairs team in western Canada builds strong relationships with provincial governments and other stakeholders to advocate for effective partnerships that result in better outcomes for the people of Canada, and BC and Alberta specifically. We support TELUS’ mission to enable transformative change through connectivity and harness the power of technology to help create a better quality of life for all Canadians. 
 

As a Strategy Manager, BC Government Affairs, you will join a diverse team, focused on developing and delivering on TELUS’ Western Canadian GR strategy. Reporting to the Director, BC Government Affairs, you will represent TELUS to a variety of government and stakeholder groups in BC, advocating for advanced connectivity, TELUS’ social purpose and advancing our business development objectives.

 

You’re not just a lobbyist or spokesperson, you have to understand the technology, the issues, the products, BC’s political environment and the stakeholders in depth. You have to develop strategies reflecting that insight, delivering material outcomes for TELUS and our social purpose. 

 

Here’s how

 

  • Conduct extensive research and policy analysis to inform and help shape our broader GR strategy and create briefing materials for internal and external audiences
  • Work with key stakeholders including Public Affairs, Media Relations, Investor Relations, the business and other team members to provide GR strategy input across corporate strategy and communications 
  • Support the ongoing development of TELUS’ relationships with stakeholders including elected officials, public servants, political staff and stakeholder groups 
  • Lead projects from strategy creation to complex analysis, proposal and implementation 
  • Offer thought leadership on the future of technology in our industry and its impacts on public policy including transformation, innovation, competitive trends and practice

Qualifications

What you bring

 

  • You possess superior knowledge of government affairs best practices
  • You conduct in-depth research into technology and policy concepts and ideas, supporting the development of original, meaningful strategy and communications recommendations 
  • You are well-known for your ability to quickly learn and apply new concepts and your aptitude for managing high volume workloads while paying close attention to details   
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with expertise in preparing Google presentations for executive-level audiences
  • The ability to learn quickly from success or failure, apply sound judgement, and exercise leadership in times of change and ambiguity  
  • 5 years’ experience in a policy development, government affairs, communications, strategy or operations role in a corporate, government or political setting preferred 
  • Post-secondary degree in Business, Public Administration, Political Science, Law or Communications preferred

 

Great-to-haves

 

  • Familiarity with current telecommunication service delivery opportunities and challenges in BC
  • Awareness of emerging developments in telecommunications technology and their application to various products, services and applications
  • In-depth knowledge of the Government of BC as well as the interplay between the various levels of government and key stakeholder groups 
  • Location: BC (Primarily work from home, with occasional work related travel required)
