Are you a thought leader in understanding technology and market trends, identifying insights and developing them into business strategies that drive meaningful outcomes for the business? We are looking for a bold, out-of-the-box thinker to drive innovative strategy development around our critical business priorities and culture of innovation.

Our team and what we’ll accomplish together

As a Technology Strategy Manager within our Chief Technology Office (CTO) team, you will be directly responsible for defining strategies and developing business cases to help drive the vision, roadmap and execution plans for our state-of-the-art Innovation Centre in Vancouver. The CTO team is at the heart of creating TELUS’ next-generation technology roadmap and leading the charge to drive TELUS’ multi-billion dollar investments in network and technology solutions. We develop next generation technologies to establish the security, architecture, and data privacy and trust foundation for TELUS’ services. The Innovation Centre serves as a key hub for a plethora of programs including next generation technology acceleration, executive initiatives, recruitment, team engagement and culture, customer demos and more.

We are looking for a highly-motivated, creative visionary to join our Business and Innovation Office team within the Chief Technology Office. You will be joining a multi-functional team that is executing successfully against various business objectives, and we will look to you to work closely with the CTO Leadership Team as well as leaders across the organization to develop a strategic vision, multi-year roadmap and key transformational initiatives to establish our Innovation Centres as industry-leading accelerators for technology and culture. Reporting to the Director, CTO Business and Innovation Office, you will be part of a small team with a big scope, responsible for strategic planning and reporting, business enablement, marketing, and engagement initiatives.

What you’ll do

In this role, you will be responsible for partnering with senior leaders and key stakeholders to roadmap, develop and execute on initiatives with high technical complexity and business impact. Our industry and technologies are constantly changing, so a key part of being successful in this role involves being able to adapt and thrive in an environment of change – on any given day, you could be leading the technology delivery of our Annual General Meeting or large-scale roadshows and webcasts, hosting strategic events for our executives and Board of Directors, or expanding on our strategy to seize new ways to leverage our Innovation Centres in collaboration with your national peers. If you’re a whiz at communication and collaboration technologies, and bring a combination of visionary thinking, telecom industry knowledge, insatiable curiosity, and ability to collaborate beyond the boundaries of business units, we’ll be excited to have you join heads with us at the table to tackle some of our biggest opportunities and challenges.

Focus

The focus of your role may evolve on an ongoing basis based on a mix of emerging needs, your capabilities and your interests, but your initial focus will be to:

  • Translate your passion for technology evolution and trends into comprehensive strategies and stories that engage and inspire audiences of all levels, using our Innovation Centre spaces
  • Work effectively with all levels of internal and external stakeholders, including senior leadership to ensure the successful delivery of events and programs (in person and online)
  • Serve as a community leader and champion, helping us to build a “maker space” and “accelerator hub” for a community of thinkers and developers (you will also help the community to build Internet of Things objects and program them)
  • Support active proof of concept (PoC) projects underway across the Chief Technology Office
  • Drive day-to-day technical operations and escalations as they might arise. Support the development and delivery of Board, Executive and Business Unit level presentations and strategic planning
  • Lead special projects from idea-creation to complex analysis, proposal and implementation

What you bring

  • Strong understanding of telecom network technologies, architectures, and business models
  • Proven ability to synthesize complex technical concepts into meaningful communications and recommendations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with expertise in preparing PowerPoint or Google presentations for executive-level audiences
  • Technical knowledge of PC, Mac, iOS and Android at a high level of proficiency, to be able to install, update and troubleshoot operating system issues; as well as configure and operate Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI) models and demos
  • Knowledge and understanding of programming languages (Java, C+, Python) an asset
  • Ability to effectively engage stakeholders, including senior leaders, to establish cross functional alignment for projects and initiatives
  • Capable of managing high volume workloads while paying close attention to details
  • Ability to learn quickly from success or failure, good judgement, and high comfort level with change and ambiguity
  • Strong project management skills with a proven track record in leading and delivering complex projects
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in strategy development and execution
  • 3 to 10 years of experience in leading accelerator programs or initiatives, and directly supporting technology operations and implementation (PC, Mac, iOS and Android and IoT)
